About the Class

Our South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Class is a comprehensive class that covers all the requirements set forth by SDCL 23-7-58. This class is for law-abiding adult citizens as defined by applicable federal, state, or local laws who are residents of South Dakota and at least 18 years of age or older.

Safe Handgun Handling Fundamentals

Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual's right to self-defense.

Multi-State Carry Benefits

With your SD Enhanced Permit, a South Dakotan could carry concealed into 38 states! Some of the states you could carry concealed into include Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Montana, and 30 other states. This class also qualifies South Dakota residents for their Arizona Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permit.

Enhanced Permit Advantages

Enhanced Permits issued on or after 01/01/2017 is an optional permit that will allow approved permit holders the ability to present the permit to a retailer when purchasing a firearm, in lieu of a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The card proves passage of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) background check on the spot.

Renewals

  • This class fulfills all the requirements of SDCL 23-7-56.
  • South Dakota residents who possess a valid SOUTH DAKOTA ENHANCED PERMIT TO CARRY CONCEALED are required to attend a renewal class within 12 months (365 days) of their renewal date or 1 month (30 days) after their permit's expiration date. Prior to renewing their South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed at their county sheriff's office.

Students will take a written test (80% minimum passing score) and firearms qualification (80% minimum passing score).

Upon successful completion, receive their course certificate to apply for their Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Permit. This course is only conducted by SD Enhanced Concealed Pistol Use of Force Instructor(s)/NRA Certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.
