About the Class
Our South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Class is a comprehensive class that covers all the requirements set forth by SDCL 23-7-58. This class is for law-abiding adult citizens as defined by applicable federal, state, or local laws who are residents of South Dakota and at least 18 years of age or older.
Safe Handgun Handling Fundamentals
Teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individual's right to self-defense.
Multi-State Carry Benefits
With your SD Enhanced Permit, a South Dakotan could carry concealed into 38 states! Some of the states you could carry concealed into include Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming, Montana, and 30 other states. This class also qualifies South Dakota residents for their Arizona Non-Resident Concealed Carry Permit.
Enhanced Permit Advantages
Enhanced Permits issued on or after 01/01/2017 is an optional permit that will allow approved permit holders the ability to present the permit to a retailer when purchasing a firearm, in lieu of a National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). The card proves passage of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) background check on the spot.
Renewals
- This class fulfills all the requirements of SDCL 23-7-56.
- South Dakota residents who possess a valid SOUTH DAKOTA ENHANCED PERMIT TO CARRY CONCEALED are required to attend a renewal class within 12 months (365 days) of their renewal date or 1 month (30 days) after their permit's expiration date. Prior to renewing their South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed at their county sheriff's office.

Students will take a written test (80% minimum passing score) and firearms qualification (80% minimum passing score).
Upon successful completion, receive their course certificate to apply for their Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Permit. This course is only conducted by SD Enhanced Concealed Pistol Use of Force Instructor(s)/NRA Certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.

Who Can Attend?
- Law-Abiding Adult Citizens 18 Years of Age and Up
- Who are residents of South Dakota.
- Or will become residents of SD within 12 months of the selected class date.
- Must be preregistered and paid at the time of enrollment.
- Effective July 1st, 2019
- Juveniles who are at least 12 years of age to 17 years of age may attend:
- With their parent or guardian.
- Both the parent/guardian and juvenile child must be preregistered and prepaid to attend. ($65.00 +tax per student).
- Parents and guardians will be required to sign a waiver for their juvenile.
- Juveniles will also be required to sign a waiver.
- Juveniles will be required to follow all the same rules in the class as adults.

- Juveniles Will Be Issued a Certificate of Completion / Juvenile Pistol Training Class
- Juveniles Will Not Be Issued Any Materials to Apply for Any Concealed Carry Permit(S).
- Juveniles Who Are Successful Would Be Eligible to Attend Other Classes.
- Juveniles would be required to attend the Defensive Firearms with a parent or guardian.
- Juveniles and parent or guardian must meet any prerequisite training requirements if applicable
- Both the parent/guardian and juvenile must be preregistered and prepaid to attend advanced Defensive Firearms Classes.

What Students Need to Have
- HANDGUN –
- We recommend using a handgun appropriate for self-defense chambered in a minimum caliber of .380ACP/.38 caliber.
- We recommend using a full-sized pistol (e.g., Glock 17), compact pistol (e.g., Glock 19), or sub-compact pistol (e.g., Glock 26, 43, or 42) chambered in at least .380 ACP/.38 caliber.
- We do not recommend the use of “pocket pistols,” which are very small handguns usually in .25, .32, or .380 calibers. Their small size and complexity will greatly increase the difficulty level of learning new techniques and could cause increased frustration on the part of the student.
- No Derringers are allowed.
- No single-action revolvers are allowed.
- No pistols are allowed in class that have known safety issues:
- Firing when dropped.
- Firing when the trigger is not being pulled.
- Firing while in a holster & the trigger is not being pulled.
- Not firing when the trigger is pulled.
- Or any other issue found later, which would make a pistol or any handgun unsafe to use.
- The use of a .22 Long Rifle caliber pistol is acceptable.
