What will take place during this SD Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Renewal Class?
- Class room Instruction on:
- South Dakota Laws relating to Firearms & Use of Force
- South Dakota Laws - regarding relevant criminal statutory changes.
- Written Test over the class room materials covered. Students will need a minimum passing score of 80%
- Skills testing of the participants ability to demonstrate the basic rules of gun safety with their defensive handgun, during the qualification.
- Skills testing of the participants ability to shoot a minimum passing score of 80% with their defensive handgun during this qualification.
Topics Covered:
- South Dakota Laws relating to Firearms & Use of Force (SDCL 23-7-56)
- South Dakota Laws - regarding relevant criminal statutory changes. (SDCL 23-7-56)
- Range Safety Briefing.
- Range Rule Briefing.
- Review of Firearms Safety Rules.
- Qualification Target Scoring.
- Skills testing of the participants ability to demonstrate the basic rules of gun safety with their defensive handgun, during the qualification. (SDCL 23-7-56)
- Skills testing of the participants ability to shoot a minimum passing score of 80% with their defensive handgun during this qualification.
Testing:
- Written Test - minimum passing score is 80%
Skills Testing:
- The handgun qualification accuracy standard is a minimum of 80%.
- Participants will be given three (3) opportunities to qualify during the scheduled event.
- A participant who fails to qualify after three attempts is deemed to have failed the handgun qualification/skills testing.
- They are eligible for to re-test after registering and paying to attend a future Open Enrollment SD Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Class.
- Participants who successfully complete this course will receive:
- South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed - Renewal Certificate (SDCL 23-7-56)
Students will need to have:
HANDGUN –
- We recommend using a handgun appropriate for self-defense chambered in a minimum caliber of .380ACP/.38 caliber.
- We recommend using a full sized pistol (e.g. Glock 17), compact pistol (e.g. Glock 19), or sub-compact pistol (e.g. Glock 26, 43, or 42) chambered in minimum .380 ACP/.38 caliber.
- We do not recommend the use of “Pocket Pistols” which are a very small handgun usually in .25, .32, or .380 calibers. Their small size and complexity will greatly increase the difficulty level of learning new techniques and could cause increased frustration on the part of the student
- No Derringers are allowed
- No single-action revolvers are allowed.
- The use of a .22 Long Rifle caliber pistols is acceptable - if you have questions please contact the instructor.
