DEFENSIVE RIFLE/pistol class
Course Description:
The AR15, Mini-14 and similarly styled MSR family of firearms are very popular today. Many shooters want to learn how to best operate their gun. This course is only conducted by certified instructors. Our Defensive Rifle/Pistol Class will focus on hands on instruction. The goal of the course is to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to use a rifle correctly, responsibly, and with confidence.
This class is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local laws. This course is conducted as a Non-Approved NRA Defensive Rifle/Pistol Class. A Certificate of Completion is awarded to students who successfully complete this class. This course is conducted by NRA Certified Firearms Instructors
. The required prerequisites for students to attend this course are:
Possess a valid Permit to Carry Concealed from:
- South Dakota Enhanced Permit
- Minnesota
- Nebraska
- North Dakota Enhanced Permit
- Utah (Resident or Non-Resident)
- Possess a valid a South Dakota Enhanced Permit to Carry Concealed Class Certificate of Completion or Certificate of Completion from any State Certified Concealed Carry Instructor(s) from MN, NE, ND, UT.
Successfully passed:
- NRA Defensive Pistol - completion certificate
- NRA Personal Protection outside the Home - Level I - completion certificate
- NRA Personal Protection outside the Home - Level II - completion certificate

Nomenclature of the AR15 series of carbines & rifles. (What are all the parts called?)
Demonstrate proper cleaning and oiling procedure (We will not actually clean guns in the class.)

Practice the proper stance and grip.
Developing the correct sight alignment and sight picture.
Basic sight in techniques. We ask that your rifle be sighted in with whatever sighting system is on the gun.

No bolt action, lever action, pump action or other type of rifles or carbines.
Magazines – 2 minimum, 3 preferred
Magazines pouches – recommended but not necessary.
100 rounds of rifle ammunition. New factory ammunition only – No reloads.

HANDGUN:

- We recommend using a handgun appropriate for self-defense chambered in a minimum caliber of 9mm/.38 caliber.
- We recommend using a full sized pistol (e.g. Glock 17), compact pistol (e.g. Glock 19), or sub-compact pistol (e.g. Glock 26 or 43) chambered in a minimum caliber of 9mm/.38 caliber.
- We do not recommend the use of “Pocket Pistols” which are a very small handgun usually in .25, .32, or .380 calibers. Their small size and complexity will greatly increase the difficulty level of learning new techniques and could cause increased frustration on the part of the student.
- No Derringers are allowed
- No single-action revolvers are allowed.

- If your preferred method of carry is or will be purse, fanny pack, or other position, we will give you some advice on those items during the class.
